Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) and PURINA, a brand specialized in pet nutrition of the Nestlé portfolio, signed an inter-institutional agreement to promote the training of young people and teachers in the field of veterinary medicine; to contribute to the professional development of future Dominican veterinarians, providing them the opportunity to expand their knowledge in pet nutrition and providing them with crucial information for their growth in the industry.
The alliance between both entities is aligned with the purpose of improving the quality of life of pets, which play a fundamental role in the emotional and mental support of their owners, thus promoting a comprehensive welfare for both animals and society. The director of the Veterinary School, Dr. José Ramón Hernández, stated: “This initiative demonstrates the firm commitment between two institutions focused on the preparation of the veterinary class of this country, which represents an opportunity to expand the professional horizon of these future professionals.”
Mr. Fernando Sapeg, Business Director of Nestlé Purina® Dominican Republic, expressed his enthusiasm for this agreement and reiterated the company’s commitment to support future veterinary professionals. Meanwhile Vera Troncoso, veterinary physician, and coordinator of the PURINA® Veterinarians team for the Caribbean, said: “The benefit it will generate in students will allow them to build confidence and be more assertive in their clinical consultations. This collaboration makes it possible for us to learn more about the needs of Veterinary Medicine students, and to support the university in its commitment to train professionals of excellence”,
The signing took place in the framework of the celebration of Dominican Veterinary Day, on October 29, with the presence of representatives, professors, and students of UNPHU, as well as collaborators of Nestlé Purina.
