Student Visa

Basic Services


The electricity is from 110 to 120 volts, 60Hz., and plugs have the same size as those in the US. The need for elecctricity excedes the supply, therefore power outages are normal in the Dominican Republic. These blackouts are not caused by accident as in the US, but are a way to share a limited resource. Some houses have plants, small generators that provide electricity during blackouts to the families that own them; others have invertors, car batteries connected to maintain lights and fans during the blackout.
