 What is the scope and application of the UNPHU Education Model Teaching Certification Program?


It will be applied on the main campus in Santo Domingo as well as the La Vega and New York extensions.

The certification is applicable to every UNPHU School professor and director, independently of their level, years of service, or school to which they belong.  This certification is a requirement for every new-entry teacher.

The certification permits the necessary professional standards for an education of global quality in order to support the process of learning and professional growth among the students.

This effort to provide an excellent education reflects the highest aspirations of the teaching profession. The standards serve as guidelines and norms for the teacher training programs, as they promote reflection on the contents of the curriculum offered and the preparation of the student, in accordance with the highest aspirations in this professional field.

The UNPHU Education Model adds value to the professional preparation of our teachers so that they will be capable of choosing, updating, and using the knowledge acquired and innovative techniques for teaching and learning, in order to develop in their students general and specific competencies according to the courses, academic areas, and requirements of the institution so that they can exercise their profession with authority and prestige. In addition, it encourages constant training that will allow them to achieve higher positions in the teaching profession. The professors in our institution are capable of learning and teaching in different contexts and modalities, and are thus prepared to act effectively in changing situations, accepting the challenges presented by today´s information and knowledge society.

This method of teaching by competencies is based on the development of skills, abilities, and values that together with the acquisition of new knowledge, favors the establishing of a staff of thoughtful teachers oriented toward critical analysis, autonomous and responsible, committed to the exercising of their profession and to the institution, empowered to present didactic alternatives and participate in decisions concerning education.
